A.L. Debran is a native Coloradoan and currently teaches high school history and English in a small rural school in southeastern Colorado. To appease her persistent inner Muse, she left a career in special education administration and returned to the classroom which has allowed her more time to devote to writing. While writing has always been a creative outlet for her, she didn’t pursue publishing until March of 2006. Her first novel, Lonely Places, hit the e-book shelves just three months later.
A.L. grew up on a ranch in northeastern Colorado. The many memorable hours she spent reading Louis L’Amour novels and listening to Marty Robbins’ gunfighter ballads instilled in her a deep love for the Old West and the romantic myth of the American cowboy. A.L. meticulously researches the history in her stories and she personally visits the settings whenever possible. Inspiration for a story often comes to her through music, movies, and pictures.
If A.L. could live anywhere in the world, it would be Fairplay, Colorado and if she could spend one day with a famous person from history, it would be William Shakespeare. She loves cool autumn nights and warm Indian Summer days. Her favorite cowboy movie line is from Quigley Down Under. Quigley outdraws Marston in a gunfight and as Marston dies, Quigley looks down at him and says, "I said I never had much use for one. Never said I didn’t know how to use it."
A.L. and her husband share their home with a menagerie of cats and a mini-Australian Shepherd named Mike. They have three grown children and two granddaughters. A.L. welcomes emails from fans.
